Madison Buffalo Jump State Park will host its annual Kite Festival on Saturday, Sept. 5.

This exciting event brings together activities, vendors, music and educational programs that celebrate the jump as a significant cultural site and a scenic, local destination for families and recreationists.

This year’s kite festival will include Native American art vendors, flint knapping demonstrations, a food truck by Vintage Nana’s Indian Tacos, a drum circle by Many Hands Light Work, and a presentation on bison by Billy Maxwell. In addition, the park will have kite kits for sale for visitors who would like to build their own kite and fly it on site, but visitors are also welcome to bring a kite from home. Visitors can also learn how to play traditional Native American games during the festival.

Madison Buffalo Jump State Park overlooks the valley surrounding the lower Madison River, about 13 miles southeast of Three Forks along Buffalo Jump Road. It includes a high limestone cliff used by Native Americans to stampede large herds of bison for gathering food, clothing, shelter and provisions. The park is open all year during daylight hours.
